2006.12.21

The Condotte d’Acqua/Pizzarotti consortium, of which RATP Développement is a member, has been chosen to design the future line D of the Rome metro system.

On 10 November 2006, the Board of Directors of Roma Metropolitane, the body in charge of supervising the construction and operation of the Rome metro system, chose Condotte d’Acqua/Pizzarotti as the developer in charge of constructing and managing the city’s future metro line. This line, 12.5 mile long and running north to south through the Italian capital, will feature 22 stations and fully automated trains. The first section is due to open in 2015.

The primary purpose of this new line will be to link up high density residential and commercial areas currently not served by the metro system as well as significantly ease traffic density in the city’s historic centre. Line D will help ease congestion on the capital’s main thoroughfares and allow the creation of new urban zones: car parks, cycle lanes, pedestrian zones, etc., leading to new public works such as bridges, tunnels, underpasses, etc.

As part of this consortium, RATP Développement will be in charge of operation and maintenance.
