2006.09.29

As a partner in the Bombela Consortium led by Bouygues and Bombardier, which has just been awarded a concession on 28 September 2006 by the government of the province of Gauteng, RATP Développement will take part in designing, operating and maintaining the transportation system that will link Johannesburg to Pretoria and Hatfield, and will serve the international airport come 2010.

For 15 years, RATP Développement, a subsidiary of France’s RATP, will lead the Bombela Operating Company in partnership with South Africa’s Murray & Roberts and SPG.

Prior to the operating phase, RATP Développement will work on the design and commissioning of the system and will recruit and train the managers and operators.

Apart from the operation of the actual 80 km (50 miles) long line, a wide range of services will be provided to passengers: from car parks near the stations, to feeder bus services, service level agreements, sophisticated facilities on board the trains and in the stations, intermodal ticketing, etc.

This design and operate contract is worth some 900 million euros to RATP Développement over the run of the project.
