Equival : intermode facilities to stimulate public transport

Facing urban expansion and increasing mobility in larger and larger areas of population, setting up dynamic and innovative inter-mode services has become a major concern for local authorities.

Making public transport easier to use

Organizing authorities that want to develop the use of public transport and facilitate mobility while reducing pressure on road networks are interested in:
- developing the use of regular and school lines to reduce car traffic
- developing an innovative and modern image by improving service quality
- guaranteeing transparent and efficient information
- establishing connections in safe and attractive locations

Équival focuses exclusively on the management of inter-mode mobility. The company offers to manage all inter-mode services for local authorities. By making the client the center of its attention, Équival aims to improve access to networks and to encourage the use of public transport.

Created in 2004, the company Équival materializes a partnership that has existed since 2002 between its 50/50 shareholders, RATP Développement and TRANSDEV.

Know-how made available to local authorities

Équival assists local authorities and shares with them its know-how to design, set up and animate travel services: The company
- coordinates each organizing authority’s contribution
- transforms exchange centers into attractive and animated sites
- informs travelers thanks to internet sites and phone information offices
- advises elected representatives and technicians on how to structure each offer, on rates, implantations, site arrangements, information systems...
- rouses public sales offices to promote the image of departmental public transport
- develops tools for distant selling

With a structure and means exclusively devoted to this mission, Équival is able to guarantee:

- independence regarding local transporters
- the organizing authority will control missions
- a reliable and attentive service strictly focused on customer satisfaction

Three sites in France

Presently Équival is active in 3 sites in France:

Ille-et-Vilaine Equival was entrusted with the management of Rennes bus station in August 2004 following a bid for offers launched by Ille-et-Vilaine regional council. Equival is now in charge of traffic management (platforms and parking lots), site and security monitoring, inter-mode ticket sales, of the thorough renovation of the traveler information and sales system, of real-time information and phone information, as well as the creation and operation of an information and itinerary research internet site.

With these achievements, Equival has proved:
- its know-how regarding transport network management and the renovation of information facilities
- its wish to share knowledge through staff training
- its efficient management of public funds: in each of the concerned sites, the transport offer and amount of transactions have considerably increased (over 50 % increase of transactions between 2005 and 2004). This growth has been managed with the same staff
- its involvement in local affairs: young students are employed on a seasonal basis and trained to know the region and network as well as information and sales techniques.
