Renovation of the Casablanca bus service

Within a vast renovation operation concerning all public transport, the Moroccan ministry of home affairs and the city of Casablanca launched a bid for offers at the end of 2003, concerning a public utility service delegation. This involved entrusting all urban transport to the winner of the bid, who would share with the concessionaries for the duration of their respective contracts, then operate alone as of 2009.

Aim: a more efficient network

Following this international bid for offers, delegated management of the urban transport service was assigned in 2004 to M’Dina Bus, for fifteen years with a possible extension to twenty-two. RATP Développement is the main operator of M’Dina Bus.

The shareholders of M’Dina Bus are the group Transinvest, a private operator in Casablanca (60% of the capital), the Moroccan holding company Finance.com (20% of the capital) and RATP Développement (20% of the capital).

Persistent growth

The activity was launched in November 2004, when the staff from the previous public company was transferred to M’Dina Bus. The first two years were dedicated to increasing the activity. Within 18 months, the operating fleet progressed from 20 to 500 buses shared between some sixty lines.

200 new buses, that respect the present European norms, are in the course of being delivered in 2006. The contract, allotted to Iveco after an international competition, with assembly and coachwork in Casablanca, includes options for 600 extra buses by 2008.

The industrial plan foresees the offer will increase to 1000 vehicles by 2010 and M’Dina Bus will be exclusive operator of the network as of 2009.
