Ratp Dev is part of the Condotte d'Acqua/Pizzarotti consortium selected by the Board of Directors of Roma Metropolitane to design the Italian city's new line D, which will be a fully automatic metro line.
This line, 12.5 mile long and running north to south through the Italian capital, will feature 22 stations. The first 7-mile section is due to open in 2015. Thanks to its experience in driverless metros, Ratp Dev is the consortium's partner selected to operate and maintain the system.

The primary purpose of this new line will be to connect high-density residential and commercial areas, which are currently by-passed by the metro system. It will significantly ease traffic problems in the city's historic centre and reduce congestion on the capital's main thoroughfares.

The opening of Line D will allow the building of car parks, cycle lanes and pedestrian zones. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2019.
